Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Fubara, born on 28 January 1975 in Opobo/Nkoro, Rivers State, is an accountant-turned-politician who became the Governor of Rivers State on 29 May 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fubara, who previously served as the Accountant-General of the state, won the 2023 election with over 62% of the vote. His governance focused on fiscal discipline and infrastructure development. However, in March 2025, a state of emergency was declared, leading to his suspension. The emergency rule was lifted in September 2025, reinstating him as governor.
