Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a Nigerian civil engineer and prominent political leader who has served as Governor of Kano State (1999–2003, 2011–2015), Minister of Defence (2003–2007), and Senator for Kano Central (2015–2019). He was the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, but has recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition political landscape. A charismatic populist and founder of the Kwankwassiya movement, he remains one of the most influential political figures in northern Nigeria.
