Lawal Mohammed Alade Pedro, SAN, is the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. A distinguished jurist and trailblazer, he rose through the ranks of the Ministry of Justice—becoming the first State Counsel in Nigeria’s civil service to attain the SAN title. After 28 years in public service and several years in private practice, he returned as Attorney General in September 2023, bringing extensive litigation, justice administration, and legal reform experience to the role.
Education
- Attended Christ Church Cathedral Primary School, Broad Street, Lagos; Ahmadiyya College, Agege; and Methodist Boys High School, Lagos.
- Obtained LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986.
Professional Background
- Served NYSC as Legal Officer at First Bank of Nigeria Plc (Western Region).
- Joined the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in December 1987, rising to Director of Civil Litigation by 2006.
- Appointed Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry in April 2008.
- In December 2008, conferred Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) — the first State Counsel in Lagos State’s civil service to receive this honor.
