Idris Abubakar (1955–2002) was a Nigerian lawyer and politician, serving as Senator for Gombe South from 1999 until his passing in 2002, under the APP/ANPP platform. Prior to that, he served in the House of Representatives during the Third Republic. In the Senate, Abubakar chaired several key committees and distinguished himself as a fearless legislator. He was the first in the Fourth Republic to initiate impeachment proceedings against a sitting president over failure to implement the Appropriation Act, emphasizing respect for institutional integrity. He died in December 2002 after an extended illness.
