Abba Kabir Yusuf

Abba Kabir Yusuf is the Executive Governor of Kano State, in office since May 2023. Originally elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), he recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has reshaped Kano’s political alignment and drawn national attention. A Fulani royal from Gaya Local Government Area, Yusuf previously served as a commissioner under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and rose to prominence as a core figure within the Kwankwasiyya political movement. His administration popularly branded “Abba Gida-Gida” is associated with grassroots governance, large-scale public sector reforms, and renewed investment in education, agriculture, and healthcare.
